About Me

My name is Alexandria Hahn, and I am currently a senior in high school. I was recently accepted into the Independent Study and Mentorship program through my high school. Through this program I wish to explore the topic of Marine Biology under the guidance of a professional in the field. In order to help me with the research I would need to conduct to break into the world of marine science, I have chosen over the course of my 4 years in high school to take courses related to my field of study. These include AP Biology, AP Environmental Science, and Aquatics. My goals for this year in the independent study program are to gain the knowledge I would need to break into the field of marine biology, explore the career options affiliated with marine science, and to gain the experience and confidence I need to meet and work with professionals.

I am a proud daughter to two hard-working parents, and an older sister to four beautiful younger siblings. I have played the cello for 7 years, and currently sit as the social chair of my high school’s orchestra. I enjoy fishing, reading, running, swimming and watching old movies. I am currently in National Honor Society and Best Buddies, and I serve as a senior student ambassador for my high school. I am exceptionally excited to see where this year in the ISM program takes me, and I hope you will accompany me on the journey!

Mission Statement

Throughout this Independent Study and Mentorship program, I wish to acquire the skills necessary to grow as a young professional and to break into the world of Marine Biology as I connect with those willing to accompany me on the journey. By conducting extensive research under the mentorship of a professional, I aim to create a product that is unique and gain extensive knowledge in marine sciences that I can take with me outside of the high school classroom. By displaying drive, passion, and hard-work I hope to eventually show not only everyone else, but myself, that I have the necessary skills to do the work that I treasure.

S.M.A.R.T Goals

  1. I will have at least 5 interviews completed by November 1st, and have a mentor by November 18.
  1. I will have a professional Twitter account set up by November 1 -WITH CONTENT- and begin to network myself on there, beginning with following my mentor, and possibly other professionals that use Twitter as a networking platform.
  1. I will have called/emailed at least 20 professionals by November 20. They do not each have to be Marine Biologist, but in related fields, or fields that I find interesting. I would like to continue reaching out to professionals even after I have found a mentor.
